CIGNA Continues International Expansion With Office in Turkey
  12.08.2011

CIGNA Corp. continues to expand its international business as the company opens an office in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Bloomfield-based health insurer said Tuesday opened a new office to sell personal accident and life policies, and the company will later adding other insurance products. CIGNA's International Division has more than 7 million health, life and accident policies around the world and sells insurance in 30 countries and foreign jurisdictions.

CIGNA CEO David M. Cordani has said several times that the company will expand internationally as it sees opportunities to do so. CIGNA is involved in both selling insurance to residents of other countries and in providing healthcare to expatriate workers working outside the nation where they are citizens.

"Turkey represents a significant opportunity for CIGNA because our unique product portfolio and distribution model reflects the needs of the consumer and is tailored to the marketplace," said Bill Atwell, president of CIGNA International. "Our direct distribution capabilities differentiate us and will provide value to the people of Turkey. Our expansion into Turkey demonstrates CIGNA's commitment to being a global health services company, and our locally staffed team and operations represent our customer-centric approach to the marketplace."

CIGNA Hayat Sigorta S.A. in Istanbul will offer supplemental health care and life insurance marketed directly to customers via the Internet and television and through affinity partners -- organizations that offer insurance to members.
