World Bank president to make four-day visit to Turkey
  22.07.2011

World Bank President Robert Zoellick will arrive in Turkey on Tuesday for a four-day visit, according to a statement by the bank. Turkey’s economy and development agenda, as well as regional and global partnerships and roles, will be discussed during Zoellick’s visit in Turkey, according to a written statement released by the bank Monday.

World Bank Vice President Philippe Le Houerou and World Bank Executive Director for Turkey Konstantin Huber will accompany Zoellick, who will hold meetings with governmental officials, representatives of the Turkish private sector and nongovernmental organizations.

“Turkey is a development success with a per capita income nearly tripling that of 10 years ago,” Zoellick said in the statement. “It can play an important and growing role in the region and in the world due to its young population, growing economy and geographical position.”

Besides his meetings with Turkish officials in Ankara, Zoellick will join a meeting of the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey, or KAGİDER, in Istanbul to present the Equal Opportunity Model program.

The bank president will also see a seismic risk mitigation project in Istanbul, a program supported by the World Bank, and also visit the World War I battlefields of Gallipoli.
