We are considering about expanding the coverage of Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool, Babacan says
  25.03.2011

Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said Friday that they were considering about expanding the coverage of the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool.

Speaking at a press conference held by the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool in Istanbul, Babacan said that a draft law will be presented to the Turkish Parliament either before or right after the upcoming general elections to expand the coverage of the Pool.

We will not merely expand the coverage of the Pool. We will discuss ways to make our citizens more aware of the importance of joining the Pool by receiving Compulsory Earthquake Insurance Policies, Babacan said.

There are currently 3.4 million Compulsory Earthquake Insurance Policies in Turkey. An annual insurance premium costs around 96 Turkish liras (TL). With this premium, a policy holder insures his/her residence for damages up to 60,000 TL, Babacan also said.
