"It was very exciting to see that boosting X-Box binding protein 1 genetically in the liver of the rats brings the blood sugar back to normal in not only Type 2 diabetes but also in Type 1," Assistant Professor Umut Özcan from the Harvard University told the Anadolu Agency.
The Turkish professor said the research had also shown that boosting XBP1 could lower FOXO1, another protein that causes blood sugar to increase.
Özcan said the research was published in the Nature Magazine, one of the most prestigious science journals in the world.
"In order to develop a proper medication, first we need to find out what goes wrong and which mechanisms to fix in this disease," Özcan said on possible human treatment of diabetes |
