Calling for Turkish businessmen to invest in Turkmenistan, Tanık also said there are no difficulties concerning payment by the Turkmen government, which was rumored to not pay on time. He said the company had finished the construction of a bridge every two-and-a-half days and is continuing its operations, signing more contracts.
“We will build a steel bridge over the Karakum Canal in the capital, Ashgabat,” he added. The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and will cost roughly $23 million. The company is currently building the longest bridge in Turkmenistan in the northwestern city of Serdar, which will be 320 meters long, while two train stations being erected in the province of Balkan are still under construction. Regarding the rumors concerning payment to Turkish firms, Tanık underlined that the president of Turkmenistan had ordered that payment be made on time to those who complete their projects by the date specified in the contract and recommended that corporations take advantage of the opportunities in Turkmenistan. Tanık said his company has been receiving many business proposals from Algeria and Nigeria and is considering starting construction projects in these countries. “We plan to start operations in one of these countries after feasibility studies are completed,” he said, stressing the slowdown in the domestic market and suggesting that firms which are financially able to do so go abroad.
He also mentioned the company’s plans to build a new shopping mall in Ankara that will host an indoor skiing area, an entertainment center and 400 residential properties in its vicinity. The project will cost $210 million, he said. |
