According to the unconfirmed temporary data released by Turkey's Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by 26.8 percent (236.08 billion TL) year-on-year and reached 1.1 trillion TL as of May 2011.
As of May, among asset items, loans totaled 598.4 billion TL and securities amounted to 279.6 billion TL. Loans increased by 13.8 percent while securities were down 2.9 percent since the beginning of the year, BDDK said.
Moreover, banking sector's profits decreased by 18.4 percent year-on-year to 8.4 billion TL in May.
Capital adequacy ratio of Turkish banking sector stood at 17.4 percent in May 2011. It was 19.5 percent in May 2010. |
