Turkey´s EU minister becomes worldwide trending topic on Twitter
  02.12.2011

A Turkish pun made by EU Minister Egemen Bağış during a meeting on vocational training has become the talk of the day on social media.

Bağış was attending a meeting on the "Leonardo da Vinci" education program where he said, "I operated a truck the other day, and Leonardo, the winch," attempting at a pun on Leonardo da Vinci's last name.

Winch, or crane, translates as "vinç" in Turkish and sounds similar to "Vinci."

Twitter users started to make similar jokes on the microblogging web site, using the hashtag "sakaciegemen" (Egemen the joker), which quickly became the fourth highest trending topic on the site.
