Minister Egemen Bağış delivered a speech titled "Turkey for a new Europe" at the Institute of International and European Affairs in Paris on the sidelines of his contacts in France.
Bağış said Turkey's strong economy, multilateral foreign policy, cultural and historical proximity to its neighbours make Turkey an indispensable part of the European Union. Bağış said "We can't think of a future Europe without Turkey. Turkey's accession into the Bloc creates a win-win situation for everyone."
Touching on Turkish-French relations, Bağış said "We deem France as our standing friend, and believe that cooperation between the two countries contributes positively to peace and prosperity of the whole humanity."
Egemen Bağış noted further that membership support for Turkey's EU membership lent by the French government after François Hollande came to power, is important in terms of lifting political blockages and opening new negotiation chapters.
Bağış said they welcome French Defense Minister Laurent Fabius' remarks saying they will remove the objection on Chapter 22, titled "Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Instruments". |
