  22.07.2011

Turkey´s deputy prime minister said on Tuesday that Turkey was going through a period during which it should be careful and cautious.

ANKARA- Ali Babacan referred to economic developments in Euro zone, and said there were serious risks just beside Turkey.

"We are in a period in which we should be careful and cautious," Babacan said during his meeting with Umit Boyner, the chairperson of Turkish Industrialists' & Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) in Ankara.

Babacan said the government would maintain its price stability and monetary policy, based on financial stability, and would not make concessions of its financial discipline in this process.

"We will make structural reforms we need," he said and underlined importance of labor force market reforms, initiatives to make Istanbul a finance center, and rehabilitation of investment environment," Babacan said.

Babacan also said the upcoming period would be a period when Turkey would make significant reforms, particularly a new constitution, education reform, judicial reform and many economic reforms.

Also speaking in the meeting, Boyner said Turkey should set road maps in order to balance its trade and to cut down its current accounts deficit.

Boyner said TUSIAD would present Babacan a five-article program for years covering 2011 and 2015, and enumerated the five articles as "a more democratic Turkey", "a Turkey that has come closer to EU membership", "a Turkey that has achieved a sustainable growth process", "a Turkey on road to transition into low-carbon economy", "a Turkey, the productivity of which has increased."

TUSIAD members, headed by Boyner, earlier met Science, Industry & Technology Minister Nihat Ergun and Family & Social Policies Minister Fatma Sahin.

Boyner and other TUSIAD executives will also meet National Education Minister Omer Dincer.

TUSIAD Chairperson Umit Boyner said the association had asked for an appointment from Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and was waiting for an appointment date.

The business association is paying courtesy visits to new cabinet members to congratulate them on their appointment as ministers.
