Turkey will not be loser if EU does not open energy chapter to negotiations, says Energy Minister Yildiz
  21.10.2011

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said Thursday that Turkey would not be the loser if the European Union (EU) did not open the energy chapter to negotiations.

Speaking at a press conference following his talks in Brussels, Yildiz said that Turkey was already in great cooperation with the EU on natural gas and electricity and that, whether or not the energy chapter was opened to negotiations and Turkey became a member of the EU or not, this would not change the reality.

If the EU wants to work with Turkey closely in the energy sector, it has to make its position clear by opening the energy chapter to negotiations. We are not going to beg the EU for this. We continue our projects. Turkey will certainly not be the loser if the chapter does not get opened, Yildiz also said.
