Turkey: Missing Star travels to Netherlands
  08.04.2011

Turkey: Missing Star, a festival that initially took place in Denmark with the aim of promoting Turkish culture and arts in European countries, is traveling to the Netherlands today.

The project, a joint initiative by a number of bodies -- including the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Prime Ministry’s Promotion Fund, the Turkish Embassy in The Hague and the Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audiovisual Culture (TÜRSAK) -- involves a selection of cultural events over a period of three days, news agencies reported Wednesday. Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Egemen Bağış, who has played a vital role in the initiation of the program, will be present at the opening reception, which is due to take place at the Krasnapolsky Hotel in the heart of Amsterdam, the Anatolia news agency reported.

Events will commence with a live improvisation project courtesy of a collaboration between Spring Samadhi of the Samadhi Dance Company and acclaimed Turkish percussionist Burhan Öçal. A screening of the Turkish film “Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever” (Love Likes Coincidences) will also be offered.

Ahmet Temurci, cultural attaché from the Turkish Embassy at The Hague, explained that during the course of the three days the aim of the festival was to raise the profile of Turkish arts and culture and present different faces of Turkey within this framework of activity, Anatolia said.
