Turkey becomes member of International Agency for Research on Cancer
  27.05.2011

Turkey has become a member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Turkey's Ministry of Health said in a statement Tuesday that the agency accepted Turkey as its 22nd member during an executive board meeting on May 13.

The membership allows Turkish scientists to participate in international researches on cancer.

IARC is an intergovernmental agency forming part of the World Health Organization of the United Nations. Its main offices are in Lyon, France. Its role is to conduct and coordinate research into the causes of human cancer. It also conducts epidemiological studies into the occurrence of cancer worldwide. The agency maintains a series of monographs on the carcinogenic risks to humans posed by a variety of agents, mixtures and exposures. The agency is involved in both epidemiological and laboratory research and disseminates scientific information through publications, meetings, courses, and fellowships.
