THY sees 16 percent rise in number of passengers in 2010
  01.04.2011

Turkey’s national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) carried 16 percent more passengers in 2010 over 2009, maintaining its stable growth in the market.

In a written statement on Thursday the company announced the number of passengers that flew with THY in 2010 totaled 29.1 million. The company also posted TL 286 million ($183.8 million) in net profit in 2010, the statement read. The company’s net sales revenue reached TL 8.4 billion in 2010, a 20 percent rise over a year before. Further adding to the positive figures, THY’s occupancy rate increased by 2.8 points in the given period. The company carried 314,000 tons of cargo, posting a 32 percent increase over 2009.

The company has taken a quantum leap thanks to large-scale investments within the past few years. The İstanbul-based airline, also a Star Alliance member, is one of the fastest growing carriers in the world. THY posted the third highest net profit in the world in 2009, following Air China and Ryan Air
