Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday that there was great potential for cooperation between Turkey and China in the energy field.

Speaking at a signature ceremony held at Ankara's Rixos Hotel regarding the "Salt Lake Underground Natural Gas Storage Project", Yildiz said that Turkey and China were two countries attracting global attention with their booming economies.

Turkey and China must cooperate to strengthen their economies, Yildiz said.

"There was great potential for cooperation between our two countries in the energy field. We need to increase cooperation with China. We need to have 5 or 6 more projects similar to the one we are signing today," Yildiz underlined.

China's Deputy Trade Minister Wang Zhiyuan said that the world economy was progressing towards a union. There is a need for more influential cooperation between Turkey and China, Zhiyuan stressed.

We pay high attention to Turkey's goals for 2023. Turkey's intended investments in energy by 2023 are worth around 170 billion USD. The renewable energy is a great part of the investments.

We have studied Turkey's economic figures. We have noticed that the economic crisis in Europe has not much affected Turkey negatively, Zhiyuan added.
