Schengen Visa Information System goes into service in Turkey
  10.10.2014

Rolled out on a regional basis since 2011, Visa Information System, VIS in short, is being implemented in Turkey as of Thursday, September 25.

The Visa Information System (VIS) is a database containing information on visa applications by third country nationals requiring a visa to enter the Schengen area.

Consulates of Schengen states in Turkey began collecting the fingerprints of third country nationals.
10-digit finger scans are not required from children under the age of 12 or from people who physically cannot provide finger scans. Frequent travellers to the Schengen Area do not have to give new finger scans every time they apply for a new visa.
Once finger scans are stored in the system, they can be re-used for further visa applications over a 5-year period.
