Number of Swedish tourists visiting Turkey up in 2010

Nearly 450 thousand Swedish tourists visited Turkey last year as the figure is estimated go higher this year with more Swedes cancelling their holiday plans in Tunisia and Egypt, two African countries on the Mediterranean which have rocked by civil uprisings.



 


The number of Swedish tourists visiting Turkey was up by 11.3 percent in 2010, Turkey's tourism attache in Stockholm said.

Nearly 450 thousand Swedish tourists visited Turkey last year as the figure is estimated go higher this year with more Swedes cancelling their holiday plans in Tunisia and Egypt, two African countries on the Mediterranean which have rocked by civil uprisings.

"Latest political developments in Tunisia and Egypt have almost zeroed bookings there. A major part of the Swedes who cancelled their holiday plans in those countries have opted for Turkey," Filiz Kose told the Anadolu Agency.

"We are expecting a similar growth in Turkey's share in 2011 as we have seen in 2010," she said.

Kose said favorite destinations for Swedes in Turkey included Istanbul, Cesme, Kusadasi, Foca, Seferihisar, Bodrum, Marmaris, Sarigerme ve Cappadocia.

There are 31 scheduled flights weekly from Sweden to Turkey with Turkish Airlines, AnadoluJet, Sun Express and Pegasus Airlines. The Turkish Airlines, the country's flag carrier company is expected to increase the number of its flights from Sweden.
