NEC, Mitsubishi want to invest in Turkey
  18.05.2012

Turkey’s Industry Minister Nihat Ergün, who is currently on a visit to Japan to encourage investment in Turkey, has already been given the green light from NEC and Mitsubishi.

Ergün met with electronics giant NEC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nobuhiro Endo on the first day of his Japan tour. Endo explained that NEC would be interested in joining Turkey’s FATİH Project, which is distributing tablet computers and smartboards to schoolchildren throughout Turkey. NEC is especially interested in developing the project’s infrastructure, according to daily Hürriyet. Endo also added that NEC was planning to expand to the Middle East via Turkey.

Ergün said the Japanese looked favorably on forming partnerships with local Turkish companies in order to form a production band in Turkey.

Ergün also met with Mitsubishi Electric’s CEO Kenichiro Yamanichi who told him that Mitsubishi was interested in forming a partnership with Turkey in the area of satellites, suggesting that Mitsubishi could be a partner in the 5-A satellite project. Mitsubishi is also planning to develop joint programs with The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey’s (TÜBİTAK) Space Institute.

The industry ministry also asked for Mitsubishi to begin investing in Turkey in the areas of energy, motor production and automotive production.
