According to statistics that were collected by TOBB on the number of new and closed businesses, there were 49,012 new businesses established throughout the country between January and November, which indicates an increase of 7.46 percent over the same period of 2010, when the number of new businesses totaled 45,609. However, the data also show that the number of businesses that closed in 2011 increased by 17.44 percent to 11,367 from 9,679 in 2010. The data also indicate that the number of new businesses that were established in the month of November increased by 18.95 percent, while the number of businesses that closed decreased by 14.96 percent compared to previous month of 2011. When compared with figures from last November, a rise of 6.46 percent in the number of new businesses to open in Turkey is indicated along with an increase of 22.12 percent in the number of businesses that shut down.
Out of the 49,012 new businesses that opened in 2011, 46,308 of them were limited companies and the rest were corporations. Limited companies contribute 38.45 percent of total revenue generated by new businesses, and corporations produce the remainder.
Also the ratio of corporate entrepreneurs in Turkey increased to 10.7 percent of the adult population aged between 18 and 64 last year, compared to 4.6 percent in 2008, according to the “Entrepreneurship in Turkey 2010” report, which was prepared with the support of TOBB. The research indicates that in both countries 50 percent of the population has a positive attitude toward establishing their own businesses.
