Insurance giant eyes growth in Turkey
  01.04.2011

Rumors that Aksigorta, one of the leading insurance companies in Turkey, might be acquired have caused all eyes to turn to foreign firms willing to grow in the country’s insurance sector.

Luis Bonell, the European chairman of Liberty International, the sixth-largest insurance group in the world, said there are some acquisition plans on the company’s agenda.

Liberty’s partnership with the Turkish Search and Rescue Association, or AKUT, and Tiyatrokare, a private theater in Istanbul, was announced during a press conference Friday. During the meeting, the insurance company’s strategic targets were also discussed. Bonell told journalists that the company’s mission is “to make sure people can live more safely and securely.”

“Liberty International believes in Turkey’s future. We are in this market to stay,” he said. “Our aim is to become one of the leading insurance companies in Turkey by supplying the needs and demands of consumers and by offering competitive products.”

Liberty Insurance currently has 215 million Turkish Liras in paid-in capital, ranking fifth in the sector in that regard, said Ragıp Yergin, the company’s general director in Turkey. Yergin added that the firm aims to grow faster than the sector this year.

As part of an effort to make children more conscious of natural disasters, Liberty Insurance will cooperate with AKUT and Tiyatrokare, sponsoring a children’s musical play that will be performed by Tiyatrokare with contributions from AKUT.
