Genetics center to be established in Turkey
  09.12.2011

Yale University´s Turkish scientist Prof. Dr. Murat Gunel said Tuesday that he wanted to establish a genetics center in Turkey soon.

Speaking to the AA, Dr. Gunel said that it was one of his aims to bring genetics technology to Turkey. Turkey must be a world leader in genetics and genomic technologies, Dr. Gunel said.

In the next 5-10 years, genetics tests will not be ignored when trying to fight against a certain illness. The genetic structure of all of us will be known, Dr. Gunel said.

As soon as a baby is born, his/her risks for heart disease, brain tumor and cancer will be known. While this may seem like a science fiction, we have the technology to conduct such research, Dr. Gunel added.

Genetics centers around the world offer all manner of prenatal diagnosis, cytogenetic laboratory services, molecular genetics, cancer genetics, clinical genetics, identity testing, and paternity testing services.
