European Patients Prefer Turkey
  20.10.2010

The number of Europeans visiting Turkey to receive health treatment has doubled in the past four years, daily Cumhuriyet reported.

Experts believe Turkey's physical proximity to European countries, the affordable and efficient health services, Turkish doctors' recent successes worldwide, the increase in the number of hospitals with five-star hotel comfort, the latest technology being used in these hospitals, the high number of English speaking hospital personnel, and Turkey's natural and historical attractions will help enliven health tourism in Turkey even more in upcoming years.

Turkey has more than 650 private hospitals and clinics, with total bed capacity of more than 10,000. The number of tourists that come to Turkey each year for health treatment purposes rose from 126,000 in 2003 to 350,000 in 2007.

Tourists mostly undergo eye surgery, followed by dental treatments, cardiovascular operations, and organ transplants.
