Cigna expands into Turkey’s coverage market
  12.08.2011

Insurer Cigna Corp. says it will begin selling individual supplemental health, life and accident coverage to Turkish consumers.

The Philadelphia insurer with major claims operations in Bloomfield says it has been granted a Turkish license and has opened a sales office and operations center in Istanbul, that nation's largest city with some 9 million residents.

Cigna says its decision followed a detailed analysis of Turkish consumers' insurance needs and behaviors, plus a study of the local insurance industry.

The move reflects Cigna's commitment "to being a global health services company ...," Cigna International President bill Atwell said in a statement Tuesday.

Cigna claims more than 7 million health, life and accident policies in force in 30 countries and jurisdictions.
