Air Traffic up 14.4% in Turkey
  15.04.2011

Air traffic was up 14.4 percent, passenger numbers rose 13.7 percent and the size of air cargo increased 6.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2011, Turkish State Airports Authority DHMI announced on Tuesday.

In a statement on statistics about air transportation, DHMI said that upward trend in air traffic and passenger numbers continued in March 2011 and in first three months of the year.

Air traffic rose 13.6 percent year-on-year to 71,910 flights in March 2011. Turkey's airports welcomed a total of 7.31 million passengers, up 13.1 percent from the same period a year earlier. Air carriers operating in Turkey carried a total of 138,450 tons of cargo in March, which marks a 4.3 percent rise when compared with the same month of last year. DHMI also said that the number of over flights from Turkish-controlled air space declined 6.1 percent to 64,085 in March due to political turmoil in the region.
